Itinerary

What follows is a general flow of events. Expect the unexpected and prepare to be flexible.

August 8

Arrive in Anchorage at your leisure and make your way to the Copper Whale Inn. If time permits, make sure to visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center. (Lodging included. Meals, transport and activities on your own.)

August 9

After breakfast at the Copper Whale a van from Rust’s Flying Service will meet you at the Copper Whale Inn  at 7:15 am and drive you to the float-plane airport, where you meet your chartered plane for the flight north into the Alaska Range. Once you settle into your cabin and make a massage appointment, your choice of activities is nearly endless. (B,L,D)

August 10

The Lodge’s helicopter will take you on an adventure never to be forgotten, and return you for a dinner almost equal to the surroundings. (B,L,D)

August 11

A full day at Winterlake Lodge to enjoy the trails, lake and amenities. (B,L,D)

August 12

The flight from Winterlake to Tutka is breathtaking. After breakfast you board a plane heading down the spine of the Aleutian Range. When you land right at the lodge’s dock you will be met by an exceptional staff and introduced to your new home by the sea. (B,L,D)

August 13

A trip to Katmai National Park to view its famed bears. (B,L,D)

August 14

Kayaking, hiking or exploring the nearby community are the order of the day. (B,L,D)

August 15

After breakfast and packing, head to the dock for a ride across the water to the town of Homer, where you transfer to the Airport and catch a small jet to Anchorage. Weather permitting you will arrive in Anchorage shortly after noon. (B)

Such a joy to spend days where time was meaningless.  A wonderful adventure and I would like to return next year for a longer, more challenging trip.

You mentioned to me in an email that you have terrific guides - you do indeed.  Dave is a superb guide. He is personable, knowledgeable about the Arctic, and has excellent group management skills. I appreciated the time he spent teaching me to read the map, which is not easy without trails.   He allowed Adrian and me to hike at our own pace and he encouraged all of us to explore the area surrounding our campsites. I know the others would concur in my praise.
