Alex was born and raised in Fairbanks, blissfully unaware that winter could be anything but cold and dark. As such, he moved no further south than Montana for college, where amongst other presumably more academic endeavors, he learned that he preferred to cook and camp for a living, and preferably in a less densely populated place. Alex now lives near Denali National Park, where he can exercise his love of winter 9 months out of the year. Along with his partner May, gardening, gathering (food & friends), and dogs provide year-round entertainment.

After a decade as a dog-musher, Alex considers guiding his “full time gig” and loves nothing more than adventuring in new places with new friends. His infectious enthusiasm and skills as a birder and naturalist bring him high praise from those lucky enough to travel with him.
